Crime Watch - Malaysia, Inaugural Postings

We all know that not all crimes are reported in the Main Stream Media and only a small fraction of the reports are printed by the local press. There have been increases in crime in our beloved country where we call home and it is truly sickening and alarming to see fellow Malaysians getting brutally killed as victims while in the serenity of their home.

Yes, it is no longer safe today even if you are at home, and much scarier are the thoughts and concern for the safety of our children and family who had to ply the streets of our cities in the course of their livelihood.

Crime is on the rise and official police statistic shows that in the year 2005 there was 157,365 reported criminal cases nationwide and increased by 26 % to 197,780 cases in 2006, in 2007 there was a total of 209,559 cases and last year in 2008 it jump by another 15.74 % to a staggering 242,544 reported criminal cases.
These figures are more than just numbers, as they represent a growing threat to the safety and wellbeing of all Malaysians, regardless of race, background or social stature. Almost every Malaysian has either been a victim of crime, or knows someone close who has been victimized. – As Reported by the Alpha Times (An Official Newsletter of the Taman Desa Residents Association) -

Snatch theft which was once considered a petty crime has today became very brutal with the victims getting seriously injured and even resulting in deaths. It is really traumatic for the families of these victims and the increases in these crimes are now a real menace to our society.

The idea of this blog site, “Crime Watch – Malaysia” is to alert fellow Malaysians of the crime in our neighborhood and this is where we come together to report and share with each other the criminal incidents occurring in our country, in the hope that others can be alerted of the crime in their immediate location and to take the necessary precaution.

Do take a look around this blog site and especially the side bar where we will post “Location Alert” based on the reported crimes in that particular neighborhood as well as “Crime Spate Alert” which will warn of the present methods or tactics of crime that are being used by such criminals. At the top side bars we might post photos of the victims as a reminder of the atrocious crime and you can click on the photos for more detail reports.

In the inaugural opening of this site we have posted several interesting stories of crime from the media or fellow bloggers but most of all it is the stories from you that were not reported by the local news that is to be posted here, be it just a petty crime or any unusual happening, like the appearance of shifty or suspicious characters being seen loitering in your neighborhood, as most criminals survey their target before acting and if you noticed such occurrence in your surrounding than inform us as that can act as a warning and alert the families of that particular neighborhood.

Let’s show our camaraderie as an “Anak Bangsa Malaysia” and our care and concern by extending a hand to each other as it might just prevent a crime and save a life or even maybe your life or of those that you know.

  3. Thanks Crime Watch. If the authorities concerned are unable to protect the ordinary citizens from petty thefts and criminals, then we need concerned and extraordinary people to come up with solutions. Syabas

  4. Statistics don't LIE! This just shows how bloody competent our Police di Raja is in curbing crime at present.

In the past when PDRM was under good hands during ex-IGP Hanif Omar's watch, such poor results in combating crime was unheard of.

What changed? Two things comes to top-of-mind; (1)- The police nowadays spend more time going after politicians in opposition parties, in harassing NGOs' peaceful vigils etc etc such that they now are seen as taking orders from the ruling UMNO/BN party in carrying out political duties such that they don't have time to do their actual work !

(2)- Corruption from the top to bottom in the police force.

Looks like things will never change if the above two causes are not put right. In the meantime, the rakyat should not depend on our Police force to protect them and practice preventive precaution instead to stay safe.

  7. have you tried going to the police station to make a report? it is a torture and a long long wait and me and wife have to spend up to 6 hrs to make a small simple traffic accident report.

  8. Police man road-blocks solely to "negotiate " terms for innocent offences like drunk driving, no seat-belt and talking on the hand phone while driving ! Does that help to bring crime rate down ? Have you seen the "fat" cop hiding behind a pill-box at bends and curves with his walkie-talkie and further down the bend another couple of cops stop to tell you of the above offences you made ? Does that help bring the crime rate down ? What good are these road-blocks anyways but to "extort" any amount of cash from you for the above said offences !! Foot patrol and motor-bikes are recomemded for these "fat" cops to diligently and honestly make a living !
Shame of those who take bribes to feed families !

  9. What is the purpose of police patrol cars? They enable mobility of policement to deter crimes, right? Between 10am till 1pm on Sunday 22/11/09, 3 patrol cars parked by the road between Kesas Highway and OUG. The men put cones to narrow passge to one lane, few of them checked on motocylists (mostly) and motorists, while one stood to direct traffic. Their action did not look an 'operation', more adhoc type. Even if they intend to check motorist, why 3 patrol cars, wasted expensive and useful assets? No wonder crime rate remain high!

  12. Hi Anon,

I do agree with Hawkeye here.. but no offence, i believe they are picking crime stories from the papers or from ppl who are willing to share with them. They might not be able to pick up evey single crime story with our population of 26.5 million citizens. (n i know u are aware of the number of daily crimes that goes unnreported)

Which is why we are here to share our case / views and its our ONLY chance to be heard!!

Regardless of what race u are, we are one nation! =)
