High Speed Chase - Car Thief Arrested

KUCHING, SARAWAK on 28 Nov 2009.
A suspected car thief was arrested after a high-speed chase which saw him crash into a motor-cyclist.The incident happened around 5.30pm on Saturday when an undercover police team from the state contingent D8 unit, led by officer-in-charge ASP Abdul Razak Abdul Wahab, spotted a suspicious-looking Proton Waja along Jalan Setia Raja.

The team noticed the tampered lock on the front passenger door which had been put back in place using cellotape.

Using four unmarked cars, police trailed the Waja for some distance but ended up chasing the vehicle after the driver realised he was being followed.

The high-speed chase ended in Tabuan Laru when the suspect, who first tried to escape his pursuers via several small lanes behind Kuching Medical Specialist, found his path blocked by police.

He put the vehicle into reverse, crashing into a motorcyclist in the process before attempting to speed off again.

The motorcyclist, a local man, was slightly injured in the collision and required medical treatment for minor cuts.

The suspect lost control of the car when he tried to speed off again and ended up stuck on a kerb above a monsoon drain.

He opened the car door but fell into the bottom of the five-foot deep drain on getting out of the car.

He was surrounded and pulled out of the drain by police before being taken into custody.

A check of his MyKad showed him to be a 28-year-old from Tapah.

Further checks showed the gold-coloured vehicle, which still had its original licence plates, was reported stolen from Kota Sentosa earlier the same day.

The suspect is being held to assist police in investigation.

Parang Attack at Birthday Party

Klang, Selangor on 28 Nov 2009
Five more people have been arrested in connection with a parang attack during a birthday party in Taman Sentosa here on Saturday. Two of the victims died and another two were seriously injured.

Acting Selangor Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief Assistant Commissioner Khaw Kok Chin said the suspects, aged 20 to 30, were picked up here and in Petaling Jaya.

"We have identified more suspects and it's a matter of time before they are arrested," he said.

A nephew of the two men who died -- Kalimuthu Subramaniam, 30, and Berbehananda Veerasamy @ Ravi, 42 -- denied that gang rivalry was behind the attack.

J. Sivamathavan said at Kalimuthu's and Ravi's funerals yesterday that a neighbour wanted to borrow a parang but he refused because the man was drunk.

"He said an enemy was attending a birthday party in the house opposite my row and he wanted to finish him off.

"Ten minutes later, two cars came and parked outside his house, but no one got out."

Sensing trouble, he called Ravi, who was at the birthday party, and reported the neighbour's remarks.

"Five minutes later, I heard a commotion and saw my two uncles and a few others in a heated argument with the neighbour.

"I was outside and saw my uncle slapping the neighbour. Then 10 men with parang jumped out of the cars and started slashing everyone, including my brother and me.

"I could only run for my life," said the 28-year-old lorry attendant.

Another injured victim, P. Selvaraja, 25, said he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"I was there to collect my car from Kalimuthu. For no reason, I was also slashed," said the hairdresser.

Kalimuthu and Ravi were cremated at the Simpang Lima Hindu crematorium yesterday afternoon.

Afraid to WriteTraffic Accident Report

Sharon had ask whether we know the head of Traffic Police in Bukit Aman (Police HQ) as she had recently met with a minor traffic accident and had made all the necessary traffic police report however her insurance company had requested for a copy of the case report or "keputusan case " issued by the traffic police.

And so according to Sharon she had her request for a copy of the case report turned down with the response "Tak berani tulis" (afraid to write). And as such Sharon has been unable to proceed with her insurance claim till now.

The case report is a standard procedure in a traffic incident and anyone could request for the report by paying a small fee and will take about 1 to 2 week to be issued. ;-))

Well we would advise Sharon to file an e-complain at the PDRM website (HERE) which is more convenient and await for a response otherwise you can write to us again where we will highlight it and maybe attract the attention of the authorities.

Crime Watch - Malaysia, Inaugural Postings

We all know that not all crimes are reported in the Main Stream Media and only a small fraction of the reports are printed by the local press. There have been increases in crime in our beloved country where we call home and it is truly sickening and alarming to see fellow Malaysians getting brutally killed as victims while in the serenity of their home.

Yes, it is no longer safe today even if you are at home, and much scarier are the thoughts and concern for the safety of our children and family who had to ply the streets of our cities in the course of their livelihood.

Crime is on the rise and official police statistic shows that in the year 2005 there was 157,365 reported criminal cases nationwide and increased by 26 % to 197,780 cases in 2006, in 2007 there was a total of 209,559 cases and last year in 2008 it jump by another 15.74 % to a staggering 242,544 reported criminal cases.
These figures are more than just numbers, as they represent a growing threat to the safety and wellbeing of all Malaysians, regardless of race, background or social stature. Almost every Malaysian has either been a victim of crime, or knows someone close who has been victimized. – As Reported by the Alpha Times (An Official Newsletter of the Taman Desa Residents Association) -

Snatch theft which was once considered a petty crime has today became very brutal with the victims getting seriously injured and even resulting in deaths. It is really traumatic for the families of these victims and the increases in these crimes are now a real menace to our society.

The idea of this blog site, “Crime Watch – Malaysia” is to alert fellow Malaysians of the crime in our neighborhood and this is where we come together to report and share with each other the criminal incidents occurring in our country, in the hope that others can be alerted of the crime in their immediate location and to take the necessary precaution.

Do take a look around this blog site and especially the side bar where we will post “Location Alert” based on the reported crimes in that particular neighborhood as well as “Crime Spate Alert” which will warn of the present methods or tactics of crime that are being used by such criminals. At the top side bars we might post photos of the victims as a reminder of the atrocious crime and you can click on the photos for more detail reports.

In the inaugural opening of this site we have posted several interesting stories of crime from the media or fellow bloggers but most of all it is the stories from you that were not reported by the local news that is to be posted here, be it just a petty crime or any unusual happening, like the appearance of shifty or suspicious characters being seen loitering in your neighborhood, as most criminals survey their target before acting and if you noticed such occurrence in your surrounding than inform us as that can act as a warning and alert the families of that particular neighborhood.

Let’s show our camaraderie as an “Anak Bangsa Malaysia” and our care and concern by extending a hand to each other as it might just prevent a crime and save a life or even maybe your life or of those that you know.

One of them held it to my neck as he molested me, and the other one took our wallets, phones, my necklace and my husband's watch. After they got our stuff, they both molested me. When my husband pushed their hands away, they cut his head with their parang and left. K suffered a deep wound, but he is ok now and so is our daughter.

But the purpose of this email is to tell you what happened after. My neighbour called the police. The person who answered the phone said, "balai ni tak boleh handle kes to, awak kena call balai lain". My neighbour made another call and the cops came - after 45 minutes. When they got here, they got out of the car, looked at us and said, "pergi balai buat report". We then went straight to the balai at Kota Damansara, and as my husband sat there bleeding, the officer behind the counter took an hour to take our report - all the while because he was watching wrestling on tv. My husband managed to get the plate number of one of the bikes (either WSP8724 or WSP7824) - one was a Kriss Modenas and the other was a EX5. When we gave the number plate to the police (written on a scrap of paper), he looked at it and RETURNED it to us. He didn't even include it in the report. He also did not include the fact that I was molested. We only noticed these after we had calmed down somewhat. He then gave us the name of an inspector (Inspector X  of Mutiara Damansara branch) to call - but didn't include the phone number. At that time, we were too much in shock and in pain to notice. We waited a couple of days for the Inspector to call us, but he didn't.

Crime and the City

Crime and the City

Liza was driving alone on a weekday afternoon last month, about 3.30pm under the scorching Malaysian sun, right in the middle of the city, and came to a stop at the traffic light junction of Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Ampang, and on her left she could see the Ampang Police Station just next to City Square and Yow Chuan Plaza. She was her usual carefree and happy self listening to the radio while waiting for the lights to turn green and out of a sudden, she heard a loud crash as two men on a motor-cycle had pulled up along her vehicle, and smashed her car window, snatched her folder placed on the front passenger seat, which she had also put in her purse together with some documents. Liza was in total shock and frozen in her car, with debris of glass strewn all over her, and she had minor cuts in her hand and body from the flying glass.

Liza was immediately in fear and had developed a psychological fear from this experience, and could not drive into the city for days and weeks to come, and as she eventually got back to driving out of necessity, she is no longer the same, Liza had changed as she is no longer the happy cheerful driver that she was, and now walks and drive in the city in tension and is constantly looking over her shoulders even as she goes shopping with her friends. Her car radio was always on in the past whenever she drives, but now it is in total silence and never switches on as she wants to be alert for the sound of approaching motor-bikes.

The stories you hear or read in the news are just the incidents of the crime as reported, but the after effect of the victims you don’t get to hear or read much about, unless there are injuries and on many occasion resulting in fatal injuries and death from being a victim of a snatch thieves or a robbery. But for those that survive there is much mental anguish and suffering, which is permanently registered in the mind, and takes much time just to get over it, as the incidents are never forgotten and stay as an unpleasant memory forever.
